Sky: Moving a Sky box

Posted on 22 May 2011 By TV and Tech No Comments on Sky: Moving a Sky box

Question

I have a Sky+ box in one room and a second in another room. I would like to relocate the secondary box to a different room, which can be done by re routing the leads from the dish into a different place by drilling new holes.

My question is, what will happen when I disconnect the second box to relocate it? Will it lose all its data and have to be re-programmed by an engineer?

Our Answer

To move your Sky box to another location, here is what you need to do:

  1. Turn off the Sky box, unplug it from the mains, and disconnect all of the cables.
  2. Move the box to the new location.
  3. You now need to connect the box to the satellite dish. A standard Sky box needs a single feed from the satellite dish, and a Sky+ box needs two feeds from the satellite dish. Connect a feed (or feeds) from the existing satellite dish to the box that you have just moved.
  4. Connect the Sky box to your TV, then plug it in to the mains and turn the box on.

That should be it.

As long as you don’t physically move the dish, then you won’t need to re-programme anything, and you won’t lose any data on the Sky+ box.
