Missing Freeview TV Guide infomation

Posted on 21 April 2012 By TV and Tech 118 Comments on Missing Freeview TV Guide infomation

On-screen TV Listings Now Working

Freeview EPGWe’ve had a couple of messages from Freeview users not getting their TV listings information over Freeview:

“On our TV Guide we can get all channels but no synopsis detailing programme on some, what do we do?” (Wendy Sivyer)

“Please can you tell me why I cannot get my tv guide on my ALBA digital recorder? If I cannot get the guide I cannot record. Is there a way around it?” (Sandra Sparkle)

Why the Guide isn’t working

The TV listings information is used to populate the EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) and the information comes in over-the-air as data with the Freeview channels.

If you’re not getting the TV guide information, it may mean that your Freeview receiver isn’t getting a signal from the service that transmits the programme information.

What to do

One of the first things to try, is rebooting the Freeview box – Disconnect the mains power for 30 seconds and reconnect the power. Leave it a while for the box to get the information

It’s also worth performing a “re-tune” – From the box on-screen menu, perform a channel scan to make sure that all of the Freeview channels are stored in the receiver correctly.

Note that the programme information can take a while to be received, so allow 10 minutes before checking to see if the programme listing data is coming in.

If you’re still getting no luck, some other thoughts:

  • Are you getting all of the Freeview channels?
  • Are you getting a good signal?
  • Are other Freeview receivers in your house having the same problem, or is it just one box?
  • Has anything changes that may have caused the problem?

Still having a problem? Add a comment below, including the make and model of receiver, and your postcode (to check Freeview coverage)

The guide on both our TVs slowed in early summer and will only show the current and next programme when they do appear. Both sets (one Sony one Panasonic) are on the same aerial system and all the channels are actually there. Both sets are Freeview sets, i.e. no ‘box’. Both have been retuned from scratch.

So many problems but no answers! My new Sony Bravia Freeview Guide mainly shows Informatipn not available. Which means that I can’t use the backtracking function. Tried retuning several times.

On my EPG all the programme names have been replaced by random letters, numbers and symbols. have turned on and off, rescanned but nothing helps. I did improve for a few hours then it got worse. Any advice??

I have exactly the same problem as Jayne Dafforn ie have lost all the programme names, replaced by hieroglyphics. This has happened on both my Humax recorders following a planned electricity turn off of 6 hours for overhead cables to be replaced. Coincidence? I can still record if I know the programme time and also play. Have also tried turning off/on and resetting but no luck. Any ideas?

My biggest beef is incorrect info/series-no’s etc – for example an episode of ‘CSI Miami’ was given as ‘Season 5 Episode 25’ when it was really ‘Season 7 Episode 5’ !?. Who do you write to for a complaint ?

For some time now my Humax 5000T has been showing “no prog info” – even for ITV and Channel 4 & 5! I’ve found that at 5 or even 6pm there are no details shown for programmes due to start at 8pm that evening. Seven day (future) EPG – i don’t think so!
I have read lots of the proposed solutions (across a number of platforms) and one thing strikes me: they all have one common factor, i.e. the people who enter the EPG data. Could it possibly be that they’ve gone lazy and are not doing it until the very last minute?

My Freeview box is integrated into my Panasonic TV TX43FX55B. The guide works erratically – sometimes OK, sometimes not – I think it may be weather dependent. It seems to have got worse since there was some reorganising of channels some months ago. I have tried turning TV on and off, and retuning it but it doesn’t seem to help. My aerial has an amplifier and is very exposed to severe weather as we are right on the West Coast in Morecambe Bay. The aerial is more than 15 years old (we bought the house 15 years ago and have never touched the aerial). My guess is some kind of signal problem from the ageing aerial/amplifier. In very bad weather the TV pictures break up as well.

You might be right Stephen? Our aerial is over 10 yrs old and has an amplifier in the attic as natural signal is weak. We miss about 20% of channels shown on the tv guide. Different channels missing from day to day. Tried retuning etc, did nothing. I might phone the tv makers for advice as the Freeview is inbuilt. Youre not alone mate.lol.

The Freeview TV guide on my Panasonic TX-42B6B now shows only Now and Next programs instead of the 7 day program guide. This has happened in the last two weeks. Despite having reset the TV to shipping condition, done an auto channel tune, and checked that the software is up to date, tried a total power off and on etc I have not managed to restore the guide to its former self. Any ideas?

A lot of the channels on the guide are showing ‘no programme information’. BBC 1 is working, BBC 1 HD is showing a couple of programmes, but nothing after that. Channel 4 is showing a couple of programmes, but nothing after that. Very frustrating as we want to record something on channel 4 while we are away.
