Missing Freeview Channels After Switchover

Posted on 17 May 2011 By TV and Tech 1 Comment on Missing Freeview Channels After Switchover

Question

You mention that there are over 70 Freeview channels available. I live in Dumfrieshire. My signal is apparently from a relay station and I can only receive about 18 channels. Do you know if there are to be any improvements to this?

Our Answer

If you can’t get all of the Freeview channels where you live, it either means that the channels are not yet available in your area, or that there may be a problem with your aerial and/or aerial cabling.

You mention that you get your TV from a relay transmitter, and these tend to be a lower priority for upgrades than larger transmitters. In many cases, a relay channel only offers the main channels, and not all of the Freeview channels are available. For more on this, see: I don’t get all channels from my relay transmitter

It’s hard to offer advice that applies to every case without specifics such as a postcode. If you’re looking for general information or suggestions, then there’s a page offering detailed help on how to handle missing channels here: Missing Freeview Channels

If you’re still struggling, then it may be best to to talk to a local aerial firm to see if they can test your signal and suggest any ways that you may be able to get Freeview.

Can’t get Freeview?

If you can’t get Freeview, there’s always satellite as an alternative – either Sky (subscription), or Freesat (no subscription)
