How to restart the BT Home Hub

Posted on 25 January 2012 By TV and Tech 2 Comments on How to restart the BT Home Hub

I can’t restart my Home Hub

We had this query in from Nick B:

I’ve had a BT Home Hub Version 3 for a few days. The Powersave has gone on and won’t restart, despite following all the instructions. BT have given up trying and just said they’ll send a new unit, leaving me without the Internet for days to come – but is there anyway of forcing a re-start?

Disconnecting / power-down etc doesn’t have any effect…..

Power Saving

To de-activate Power Saving temporarily, press the Reset button at the back of the hub (a circle with two arrows)

If you’re able to log on to the Home Hub, you can disable Power Saving from the menu. Look for “Settings” > “BT Power Save”, and set “BT Power Save mode enable” to “No”

Resetting the hub

There are three ways to reset the Hub, as follows:

1. Press the Reset button on the back of the Home Hub (See Arrow 1 on the following picture)

2. Turn the power off, using the Power button on the right (See Arrow 3 on the following picture). You could also pull out the mains lead for 30 seconds

3. You can restore the Home Hub to its factory defaults, so it’s exactly as you got it when you unpacked it. To do this, poke the tip of a pen or an opened paperclip into the reset hole on the back of the Hub for 20 seconds. The lights will flash and the Hub will reset.

If you’re able to log in to the Home Hub, you can also perform a reset or a restart from Settings > Advanced > System

No luck?

If a reset doesn’t work, then try a factory reset. If that doesn’t work, you may still be able to connect to the hub and use its Internet connection via an Ethernet cable connected to one of the four ports. The Power Save option only disables Wi-fi, not a fixed wired connection.

Hope that helps

Mmmmm thanks but have tried all that, none of which works – the amber Powersave light stays on resolutely. The Powersave option has (apparently) disconnected the ethernet connection as well.not just the wireless conn, as on my set-up this is directly wired to my PC…….

Looks like a power supply fault – anyone else had this issue?

Nick – no, you’re not alone! My parents are having exactly the same problem – orange power button stays on no matter what we try. It was fine earlier on – the hub started up and connected properly this morning straight out of the box, but won’t do it again since powering down automatically.

Called BT who are sending a new unit (here in 2 days) – we’ll try that next!
