Sky+ HD satellite receiver box

If you’re thinking of getting a Sky+ HD box from Sky, but not sure about how to connect for HD, here are some things you need to know:

I don’t have an HD TV. Can I use a Sky+ HD box?

Yes you can. Connect from the Sky+ HD box to the TV using a SCART lead. You’ll be able to watch all of the standard definition channels – you just won’t be able to watch the HD content.

Tip: The Sky+ HD service costs £10 a month (at the time of writing). If you’re not going to be watching HD, make sure you’re not paying the Sky HD subscription!

What sort of connectors do I need?

The Sky+ HD box comes with 2 SCART sockets (for standard definition) and one HDMI socket (for connection to an HD-ready TV set). Below is a picture of a standard HDMI plug:

Your Sky+ HD box is supplied with an HDMI lead.

If you don’t connect using the Sky box’s HDMI cable, amd instead use SCART cables, you will only be able to view Standard Definition content.
